Album: Dead in goal rules

Need a little help.
If we're on attack, why does one of our last tackle options seem to be to kick the ball out as close to the corner flag as possible. I thought that if it goes dead in goal without touching a defender, it's a 20m restart to the opposition.

If the ball is kicked over the sideline (but not a 40/20) between the goal line and the 10m line, it's a scrum with the feed to the opposition on the 10m line.

It would seem to me there is no territorial advantage kicking right into corner for us and we risk giving the opposition a further 10m with the possibility of a quick restart and risk giving away a penalty if not correctly positioned.

So why do we keep aiming for the corner and not a few more meters in play?
