Album: Manu's Residual Value V2.0

Photo from warriors.co.nz

So in an attempt to avoid future de-railments, we'll continue this thread from last year. There seems to be so much discussion surrounding him that pretty much anything Manu related in 2013 can live here.

For whatever reasons, Manu's role/position in the team is an emotive subject. However, as with the prior thread, can we pleeeease leave the personal crap out of it, and discuss Manu - his best position, his performances, how shit he is...whatever. Just as long as we aren't slinging shit at eachother, then all will be well.

Anyway, back on topic. Manu's leaner and apparently a bit quicker than he's been in the recent past, and will likely start the season on the wing. The general consensus seems to be that he should, at some point in the near future, be given a go in the forwards. Will see what the future holds, however I would doubt that being a little leaner/fitter will improve his dire handling and decision making enough to justify his ongoing 'must pick' status on the wing. The asterisk on that comment however, is our distinct lack of another winger to replace him - at least not one that I'm confident will be any better. And this is all before we even consider what's happening on the other wing, though that again may be soon getting it's own dedicated thread.

No longer an auto-selection for the Kiwis, and no longer a candidate for our All Stars representative. Manu's days on the wing may be numbered. Personally I have major doubts over his ability to make a successful transition to the forwards at this stage of his career. Yes Luke Lewis has done it and yes Tony Williams has done it. I don't see Manu in the same class as either of those 2 players. I think he'd struggle with the defensive workload, and I certainly don't see him making good defensive decisions on defense when he has more than just 1 player and a white line to mark. It's probably all a moot point anyway, Elliot will likely have him as an immovable object on the win
