What's a realistic time to transition to mainly home grown though? As we had a 3 year hole cut out of our development pipeline, most of our upcoming talent is pretty young, so even by 2026 the locals in the squad will only be early 20's. Will they all be regular 1st graders?

first club NRL debut in orange below, yellow is local junior who left and returned

Honestly I think it's Ice as a player.
The most meters he had made in 4 years with the Warriors was 135m in a game. Do you know how many times he beat in his first year with the Eels? 17 lol.
That was because he had to be motivated...he left us on a minimal contract and had no other option of he wanted to continue to be an NRL player. Smashed it the next year too as it was contract year. Got the big contract with Tigers and then turned soft again.

Not the kinda guy we need at the Warriors. Certainly not the guy I would be replacing Ford with. Ford has the mentality and drive I want to see from players in our team, not someone who hides on the field
100% mate, could not agree more. As harsh as it sounds, ICE is a pea heart who does the bare minimum (sometimes not even that) and is exactly the kind of player the Warriors need to avoid going forward. We've had far too many players of that ilk over the years.

With all our young players coming through in the next 3-5 years, and us likely losing Tohu, SJ and Roger in the next 3 years, I think our average age will be taking a huge hit and we'll be quite rookie heavy.

We know how that works out - look at the Broncos last year.

For me, we need to replace them with experience - Mo Fotueka or Braedyn Hamlin-Uaele would be great for a few years, probably the pick of the bunch for me. But we need experienced players to offset the rookies who will be filtering through our system the next few years.

In fact, I think we may have missed an opportunity to have a few more young guys in our finals team this year. Having someone like Ale have 6+ finals games under his belt when Tohu/SJ finish up nek year would have been ideal imo. A few games for Volkman (maybe the Panthers game) would have been great too

Hopefully this article becomes a reality and they let Riki go.

Sheesh he's only on $350k, and is free to negotiate from November this year....

Given that both he and Ford are off contract at the same time, it could be a straight swap, using some of SJ's money to top him up to say 550k or so.

For me - end of 2024 SJ, and Ford leave and Tohu gets one more year at $400k as a bench prop/backrowers - that will free up 2 spots and about 1.35 mill.

Sign Riki on 550k, and Mo on 800k. All of a sudden our forwards and bench look like this:

AFB
Egan
Fotueka
Riki
Niukore
Ale/Sifukula

Walker
Tohu
Barnett
Curran

With either Ale/Sifukula first cab off the rank, then Jazz, then Zyon Maiu’u all getting game time through our the year. Beast pack!

Feel Ike there could be some movement at the end of our season, Bunty not getting a look in seems like he could be on the outer in one instance.

Yeah, the Broncos have been great this year, but we have had our success with a sustainable roster that we can add talent to, most probably. That is exciting and what makes us different to a couple of teams around us.

It must keep evolving! I like the look of that.
