YOUR TEAM | Laumape called in

Ngani Laumape and Sebastine Ikahihifo make their first NRL appearances of the season while Vodafone Warriors back rower Ryan Hoffman celebrates his 250th game against his old Melbourne side in next Monday’s fifth-round clash at AAMI Park (5.00pm kick-off local time; 7.00pm NZT).

Laumape comes into the centres for his 31st career match after an impressive return from a knee injury for the club’s New South Wales Cup side against North Sydney last Saturday.

And Ikahihifo has been called in to replace Ben Henry on the bench, Henry cruelly ruled out for the season after his second ACL in less than two years. Ikahihifo, who made his debut in 2012, will also be playing his 31st game for the club.

Hoffman (31) will have special cause to relish his return to Melbourne to play his landmark 250th game against the side he played for 245 times before joining the Vodafone Warriors for their 20th anniversary season.

This time he’ll have the strange experience of lining up against three players who were his constant team-mates for so long and have already joined the 250-game list – Cameron Smith (288), Billy Slater (274) and Cooper Cronk (256).

Hoffman, who has scored three tries in his first four games for the Vodafone Warriors, spent 11 seasons with the Storm while he was with Wigan in 2011.

Both teams will go into the Easter Monday contest on the back of disappointing defeats.

The Vodafone Warriors came back strongly to level up 16-16 before a penalty and a try in the finals seconds gave Brisbane a 24-16 win. Melbourne led North Queensland 17-10 with just a few minutes left last night but the Cowboys took it to extra time with a converted try and field goal; then Jonathan Thurston kicked another field goal to give his side its first win of the season.

The Storm are seventh on four points and the Vodafone Warriors ninth with the same record.

The last time they appeared at AAMI Park last season they beat Melbourne 16-10 to give Andrew McFadden his first win after taking over as coach only two weeks earlier.

While Hoffman provides the milestone focus for this match, veteran wing Manu Vatuvei chalks up his 199th appearance leaving him set for his 200th when the team returns home to take on Wests Tigers at Mount Smart Stadium on April 11 (7.30pm kick-off). Only Stacey Jones (261) and current captain Simon Mannering (216) have so far played 200 games for the Vodafone Warriors.

I like that team. It is our best possible team. Seb will add starch from the bench that Benry could not. I really rate Seb. Wright will be better. Our pack has just gotten even better. Be a great match up in the middle. Our outside backs to take us home.

The forward clash should be good between a lot of Kiwi team mates.

The two things that concern me a little are Chambers v Kata and even scarier is Korobeite vs Wright. If Wright gets in the clear Koro could probably turn, walk, and still catch up to him within ten metres.

is Allwood seen as a specialist center? would of had him on the wing over Wright.

If I could make one change it would be Allwood for Wright but other than that it's about as good as we can hope for.

[edit] beaten by jsmoove to it :p

I must be calming down. I can live with that team. I am wrapped to see Ngani and Seb back. I would be happier to see Kata switch sides to both strengthen Jonos edge, and to allow the Manu/Ngani combo to rebuild.

Now, if we can just get Bodene out and Sione back.

Glad Laumape is back. Pity Wright is still there and DP can't seem to get a look but then again for some reason Cappy has never seemed to rate him. Given Laumape is back I would have played DP at centre and Kata on the wing.

Rest of the team is ok.

Who the hell is Lousi covering.
Would rather DP the 18th man incase an outside back gets injured.

So then who is Ikahihifo covering, same question he can't cover outside backs if there is an in game injury. If there is an injury expect to see TL shifted and a big reshuffle

Ikahihifo has been forced into the centres before. He is not a huge man. But is solid as fuck. Built to last. And can easily manage a short stint into the centres. He is fit too. Fit enough for 40-60 minutes of cover. I seriously disagree about Bodene. With our right edge in so much injury disruption. How could he possibly star in attack? In defence he has been hitting hard and making his tackles for 80 minutes. I don't know what more people expected? When he has a class edge to work with i also expect him to improve in his running. Laumape will help this week. Laumape is tough and will create space. Bodene should help. I expect him to get better and better.

    For who?

a lot of talk of dropping Thompson... he has been playing 80mins hasn't he?
Means more reshuffles etc to cover the drop off in minutes from playing a 40min player?

DP to centre for Wright and move Kata to the wing. Wright is awful. I would have rested Vete and given Lousi a shot too probably. Bodene I'm not sold on but has been ok so far but I would like to see Seb and/or Lousi get some minutes out there too.

He is brought in to do whatever it was that Benry was doing.
Which I'm really not sure what. Some quasi bench 20min Prop/Lock role.

I just don't think he has been hitting as hard as we should expect him to in his tackles, I think he is trying hard and putting in a big effort for the 80 minutes but he is making bone head decisions. He cost us two penalties that led directly to the Broncos first two tries and fell off a tackle for another. Not a game for him to remember. He in my mind is over rated on this forum and I can't see him getting better. As for attack he got owned by Ben Hunt in a one on one and when he moves into a propping position for Benry to come on is our least effective in the middle.

I know a lot of people will burn me for this but I really really don't rate Mr Thompson.

Interesting comment on Ikahihifo, didn't realise he has played in the centres for periods before I hope your right and wouldn't right anything off until I see it. I would prefer him move out there in this case if there is an injury soooo for my I would swap Bodene for Lousi if only to give Lousi a second chance or to give Bodene a message

I heard Lousi spent time at centre in the last game when carmont went down.
