Would have liked to see Hurrell, Tui, Matalino after a year with this guy. Maybe we wouldn't of had to let them go?

I know what you mean Welly, and from the sounds of it this squad is expert at slack training. Although I have lost faith in Kearney's actual coaching credentials, I still rate his hardness and professionalism as a player so I think a few are going to get the message fit in or fuck off from Korvo. I am not expecting top eight next season, but a much better performance and some dead bodies along the way, still on contract if you get my drift.;) I wonder if Sam Lisone will be one of them.

I think only Matulino would have stood a chance. This is going to be SAS stuff i.e. not so much about getting fit but checking the real size of your balls.

Mate they could sell tickets on a hot day, I would pay to go and razz the lazy bastards that spew up. Back in the days of dinosaurs young Bruce was one of the fittest in the team and is still pissed off at the slackers who got by on their "athleticism". About time this club got real hard, I just love it.

They could drop them off out at Nine Mile, nothing makes you want to run like being chased by a gang of Raskols that want your footy gear, watch and wallet.

Totally agree, the answer to most of the team issues was Alex corvo.
Wishy washy answer about how good Blair was when someone pointed out his stats, only Brisbane forward to make less metres per game this year is thaiday, by 1m apparently. Almost sounded like he didn't know that, maybe he is back at my smart now asking wtf?

He's a fan, maybe he knows a bit more than Doyle about rugby league but it doesn't appear as if he has the knowledge to be across the football department like he should be.

In saying that he's identified a weakness and has successfully recruited to mitigate against it, we still need an experienced head of football.

    His works only just begun.

A metre long bush knife is way more scary than any scrawny malnourished mutt, and a Raskol will cut your throat for your watch.

From what I hear, SK wanted the club to go after Corvo. And it sounds like he's been given free range not to just concentrate on the FG players but all the players contracted to the club.

I get the feeling that Corvo won't be on too many Christmas card lists.... but that's what I want from the person in charge of their conditioning!!!

SK was it, good call by him.

It'll be good a good challenge for Corvo I suspect.

Here's hoping anyone thinking they are coming for their retirement or think being picked in an NRL squad is all you need to do, either make the grade or ask to leave.

If he isn't back at MSS asking the question he bloody well should be.

Got that right...It's not that some guys in the squad aren't physically capable of reaching the required level of fitness, it's that they aren't mentally willing..

Most clubs start the season around the same level of fitness (yes even the Warriors), and their fitness levels increase through the season depending on how willing they are to push through fatigue during games...The Mannerings of the world aren't gifted with the physical ability to keep going all game, they're gifted with the mental ability to do it, and sadly our club has a habit of recruiting far too many players who are lacking in that department.

Kind of sad really. What you say sums it up perfectly and it probably isn't going to do any more than get rid of a few passengers. Without any replacements, especially in the forwards we might be aiming for 12th place at best.

I think your right and I suspect we'll continue to see players turned over at the club for a while yet.

Of note was that Corvo has access to the entire clubs roster, it's a smart move because it means he can weed players out before they become first grade fringe so we don't waste precious development resources.

Like the assistant coaches we have also cycled through the conditioning staff the last few years. It looks like the club has gone stuff it this ain't working lets get one of the best.

I'm quite keen on his emphasis on running. Cleary mentioned one year his staff got the best results out of our guys when they got more metres in them through the pre-season. That was coming from a coaching staff that had been here a while and were able to learn from their mistakes; with our coaching regime changes we can't really afford that. Kearney's been here a year and will need to show some improvement; getting the right guy to get them in shape helps.

The last few years all of the pre-season shots didn't show much running; sure they only show what they want but running if they were doing it doesn't need to be a big secret. Carl Jennings when he was here had one video with the guys doing laps at the Millennium Centre, they were there while their gym got sorted. I wouldn't be surprised after they got that complete they moved to the new toys.

Also used to read a lot from other sides pre-seasons that they didn't touch a ball until after coming back from Christmas. Our guys either because of coaching changes needing to implement new systems or that it is more fun seemed to be doing ball skills in November/December.

The rep games are great and all but like you mention they disrupt the pre-season as the rep players don't usually come back until after Christmas one they get their leave they are entitled to under the NRL contracts.

Hopefully we see decent results in the first year. We should definitely some big improvements in years 2 and 3 of his contract.

Our guys have looked pretty slow and not very agile. It will be interesting to see how some of them perform carrying a few less kilos.

From what I've seen I believe part of Corvo's weights program is based around driving through the load with speed then following up with a compound exercise i.e barbell squat 1 rep, squat jump 1 rep. The philosophy is to build speed, power and cardiovascular endurance, a lot of his compound exercises replicate in game situations.

I'm not sure how that relates to what players currently do in the gym but I imagine it's more power based with plenty of rest/pause between reps/sets.

There was an article outlining the Broncos training like that in RLW last pre-season or maybe the season before. That was a good read, it seemed they were pretty heavily legs focus. Also recall it had his reasoning behind it.

I may still have it, if I do it would be good to re-read. Chances are I don't as I was throwing a lot out while getting a new garage built.
