A fitting legacy for the man with the Golden smile so long as we haven't jinxed it and Goff drops the ball..

More like the Jonno Wright stadium with the pace of progress on the bloody thing. No bastard can even agree on a location let alone what design stadium and name.

National about to do an about face on light rail. Tunes can be changed very quickly in politics.

I was going to bring that up in the election thread.

They obviously need both the light rail and that road link but can only afford one of them. I had assumed that the cost benefit analysis had favoured the road link.

I don't know any of the workings of either scheme so I was hoping somebody on here could help out.

Dont need either, invest in driverless cars and all your problems will go away.
Eventually should also electrify the motorways, like a dodgem trac, no more charging stations.

It's all to do with an off-balance sheet SPV raising the required equity and debt for the EPMC. Same vehicle to be used for numerous other assets in Auckland as the law doesn't allow the council to borrow against its future asset base, even though the city is growing at a rate pretty much unprecedented outside of a gold rush anywhere ever.

Site is going to be downtown near Vector.

Cricket to Western SprIngs, Eden Park and Mt Smart to be sold for high density housing developments.

So none of that multi-sport shit that the Wellington Stadium got lumped with?

Hope it happens in my lifetime. For some reason I doubt it. One positive though is knowing they are having serious discussions about it I suppose...

And the Warriors are at Mt Smart until 2022 aren't they? You're starting to get me very excited LGHM. Id have thought the council would drag the RC out for half that projected time and the environmentalists would find some endangered gnat that would add another 3 years and $40 million to the whole project...

The thing that might get them out of Eden Park by then is economics.

The stadium is largely plastic and is going to need maintenance.
It is next to a major road and rail hub so high quality/ high density housing (if is there such a thing) should in theory sell like hot cakes.
Also the traditionalists, like the Carlaw Park fans, are getting older and more feeble, if not dead, so there will be less controversy than 15 years ago when the issue last came up.

The only thing they need now is two rugby teams capable of selling seats. That might be the biggest problem of all.
