Every team is stacked with huge South Auckland Polys now so it's not our point of difference anymore.

So I can't see how we'll still be the best at Jungle Footy either.

Our offloads were dying in the Cleary era, don't put that on SK

Closest we ever came without fluking it was our first GF back in 2003

Ali Lautiti and Stacey - what a magic period that was before Anderson lost the plot

Bullshit, total bullshit. Back in the day Kiwis were known for guts and determination. WTF does jungle footy mean anyway? Being brilliant for 5 minutes then going to sleep for 15? Rugby league is an 80 minute game based on defence. If jungle footy doesn't include defence then it is just Warrior ball. Newcastle beat a team that didn't want to tackle, simple as that.

What the Aussies have done is sort the wheat from the chaff. They have plenty of lazy slack bastards there, but they get sorted well before FG because they have to compete with the country boys for FG.

They had restricted weight when I was a kid as well. Even had flying squads going to grounds to do spot checks. Back then there were NO Polynesian kids playing, and surprisingly few Maori in Auckland, it was a white town. So it had nothing to do with race, it was just common sense.

I played from 1964-1977 we have a couple of Island boys and Maori boys in our teams most notably the younger brother of Olsen Filipania, Alfred a real good player. Sam & Lloyds Perretts uncles Mike & Guy were also in my team. Mike outstanding player could have been anything, had a run in with
the Ken Kiwi coach Cec Mountford while in a Kiwi training camp and never played again

Yep, I knew Alf. I knew Ces as well, he was a very strict coach. He coached in England so was used to dealing with hard bastards. He would turn in his grave thinking of what SK has to deal with. If you recall the first Island kids started arriving about 1960 so it took quite a while for them to filter through the system.

Compare the team then to now, how many Maori, how many Pakeha, how many Ozzies?

    • That’s the question posed by Sporting News' league expert Peter Peters as the Kiwi club heads towards a sixth straight year without finals football.

“Is it significant that their real losing spell started when assistant coach Steve McNamara returned to Super League?” Zorba asked on Sky Sports Radio.

      “It’s a big co-incidence.

“The pressure has to be in on (Stephen) Kearney.”

Of greater alarm for the Warriors is their worrying habit of drifting from contention at the back-end of seasons.

It suggests that both mentally and physically, the New Zealand outfit is just not up to it.

“They’ve got eight wins in 41 late season games since 2012,” Peters pointed out.

“So after Origin, when everyone gets back to full strength, they’re shocking.

“We thought when CEO Jim Doyle and coach Stephen Kearney went there we’d see something different.

“They’ve got one of the best spines on paper – and I know the halfback Shaun Johnson is out - but something is really wrong.”

Call it whatever you want, however our lame attempt at the Melbourne Storm model (Doyle's idea) is an absolute fucking disaster. As for the lack of offloads - Kearney has history of banning them, did it back with the Eels. He is risk averse and dim, not a good combination. All the apologists can say what they want, however I'm on board with BeastMode's views on this.

I can't be fucked looking for actual quotes from players back in 2011 (from memory disgruntled players were the source); however there's plenty of evidence in the stats. Season 2010 - Eels number 1 in comp for offloads with 413. Season 2011 - Kearney's first season in charge, 16th in the comp for offloads with 182. There's your evidence - from 1st in offloads to 16th all in the space of 1 year.

Why you always have to turn this into a race discussion bro?

Jungle footy is a metaphor for open expansive play

Ali lautiti was the michael jordon of rugby league. No one has come close to replicating his style of play because old conservatives deem it too reckless and high risk
