Agree it's easy to say now how useless this team is but pre season was it the case:-
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Blake Ayshford, David Fusitua, Ken Maumalo, Kieran Foran, Shaun Johnson, Ben Matulino, Issac Luke, James Gavet, Bodene Thompson, Ryan Hoffman, Simon Mannering
INTERCHANGE:- Nathaniel Roache, Sam Lisone, Charlie Gubb, Jacob Lillyman. Definitely lack size and a point of difference in 2nd row, maybe should have held on to (or at least given more opportunity too) Raymond Faitala-Mariner and Shaun Lane from 2016 discards. Same could be said for Konrad Hurrell. But overall we should have done much better this year.

It's not unreasonable to question our (or SK's!) ability to get the best out of our players. Up until game 2 Lillymans been a constant in one of the greatest Queensland teams of all time, you wouldn't pick it on how he plays here. Would come as no surprise to see Fozz or Matulino excell next year as they have been good before.

While some will argue that its a simple excuse and there were greater contributing factors to their season (i.e. the edge defence woes etc etc) there is no escaping the horror run of injuries the side had which was a major headache for Kearney with the lack of second tier squad depth.

In addition to our halves who looked to be carrying niggles all season, the forward pack was decimated:

Matulino starts late due to recovery from infection.
Vete was coming good, then breaks his arm.
Gavet was in rampaging form, then breaks his arm.
Just when Thompson was starting to get some form back after a horror first half to the season, tears his pec.
Hoffman damages his foot before the cursed Perth fixture. The game that started the rot.
Luke busts his ribs, then Roache gets a go, is looking the part and does his hamstring.
Mannering out for a few games with niggles.
Lillyman sustains a bicep injury. Although late in the season its still an injury!

Once we have a bench consisting entirely of first grade rookies in Bell, Tevaga, Afoa and Papali'i it was not going to end well. 9 losses in a row though, sigh.

He has said that in hindsight he shouldn't have taken the Eels job because he doesn't think he was ready for that role (politely declines to blame the off-field dramas at Parramatta). So you can't say he doesn't have any self-awareness. Just maybe not in the right places.

If this was one month a go i would've called in.

But i just read about his wife in remission from cancer. Incline to give him a break from all the negative energy. Must be so tough.

Lets start our relationship over again Stephen.

Go for the hardest preseason EVER! and make 2018 our year?!

Yep ive bagged him a lot but prepared to give him next year without hating on the guy, woulda been a really hard year for him both on and off the field. Respect the fact he didnt use it as an excuse.

Wow, certainly puts things into perspective. The article in the Herald also mentions his family has remained in Brisbane for the entire year which would not have been easy.

His press conferences may not be the most enthralling, but he has certainly behaved in a far more professional manner this year than the likes of Flanagan, Barrett and co despite the toughest of circumstances.

    High completions = process.

That kept us in games else itd be blowouts.

    Wont be changing.

Beale and Hiku are experienced and will be in the mix for starting lineup, depends on preseason and trials, given first crack.

Adam will bring leadership but RTS will stay captain.

Blair makes ppl around him better. Puts pressure on halves, kock chases, wrestles. Trains hard and will be a positive influence.
