Doyle and Iro worked together with the NZRL which has been a seriously dysfunctional outfit at times over the years (no names). They obviously worked well together and impressed a lot of players, but IMO it was Doyle who had the major part to play.

Oh shit...I thought Tony was with the Kiwis when Jim was running the NZRL...was that not the case?

Jim Doyle stepped down at the end of 2012. About the same time Tony Iro missed out on coaching the Warriors for Matt Elliott.

For the NZRL is bascally been downhill ever since Doyle left...

Tony Iro was working with the NZRL from 2009 to 2012 as selector and other things. They must have done some things together

Ricky Henry and Iro were instrumental in picking him up / stealing him really from rugby (Blues Dvpt I hear) to play in the U20s comp. After a couple of years in the Warriors system he secured a further 2 year deal in Cleary's last year. However when Bluey arrived later that year he was told in no uncertain terms that he would see little or no first grade game time. That's when he hopped over the ditch to the waiting arms of Hasler at the Doggies! Iro's definitely keen on him still.

Blueys stance given what you have said is daft.

No coach should ever right off a hopefull.

Its especially incongruent, since Bluey famously declared the Warriors didn't need any more players added to their roster.

James must have really pissed Bluey off....whether rightfully or wrongly.

I go back to coaches needing to find ways to build relationships with players.

Well you see that's the thing. Bluey had made the decision without actually having made a relationship with him - good or otherwise - so he didn't even have a chance to "piss him off". Ironically James and his agent, Tryan Smith, were both disappointed and puzzled by it. Gavet had an advance from Hasler early in 2011 to transfer, not to Manley but to Canterbury eventually. Just a dumb move by Bluey really!

Fair question, but what about the people that had the brilliant idea of letting Ivan go for him?

I like how he says "it's up to us, and to the players involved, to change peoples opinions,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but that's all they are at the end of the day."

It's the old Opinions Are Like Assholes line...:hilarious:

What interests me more is the comment at the end of the video about the fact that the Warriors have signed several players from the National Secondary Schools competition for next year. Interesting to hear who they might be?
