In advance of Wales announcing their team, one of their greatest games. Link has been hidden. Please Register to view.

Some great names in their team that day, basically the cream of Welsh rugby talent from the previous 10 years, plus a few like Cunningham who qualified through parentage.

That Mills must have been a scary man if the Kiwis were going to act like pussies over that stomp. Should have been an all in brawl with Mills leaving on a stretcher...

The story I heard is that most of them were unsighted. Mills isn't scary, he was just a bad tempered pussycat. The Welsh, being well aware of the maulings from the All Blacks really wanted to put it over a NZ rugby team. David Watkins, the one that Colin Meads dropped at Eden Park was a right little mouth at the after match when Wales came to play the Kiwis at Carlaw Park once. Hopefully those days are gone. At least most of the Welsh team are in fact Welsh, even though they don't play league in Wales.

The only player in sight was Peter Gurnik and he did fuck all. Just stood there like a stale bottle of piss

I've avoided mentioning Big Jim before now because of that stamping, banned from playing league in NZ because of it iirc. A complete psycho on the pitch, he made Les Boyd look like the Archangel Gabriel. Lovely bloke off the pitch

Peter Gurnick was a very tough player himself, he was no chicken. He was right in front of the referee and pointed him towards Mills. That was the textbook move if you think about it.

Yes he was on most occasions but he let John Greengrass down badly, should have belted Mills. Guy was just a thug. He was given a life ban by the NZRL in terms of ever playing against the Kiwis. And to make it even worse we lost the game.

There has always been the potential for RL to take off in South Wales, similar culture and attitudes to the RL strongholds in the North if England. Unfortunately RU has such a strong hold, in the past trying to frighten players off from playing RL.

Some of the all time RL greats were Welsh, Billy Boston and Gus Risman to name but two. This Welsh squad should feature a lad who I think is going to be a sensational player in the future, Regan Grace

yeah they should have had an all in the only thing i can of is other than kiwi player who pointed to the ref the rest of the team didnt see Mills stomp Greengrass?
Any one know the final score in that game it was bit before my time?
I remember reading somewhere there is currently about 2,000 registered Rugby League players in Wales. They have 2 semi pro clubs in Championship 1 in the UK, South Wales Ironmen & North Wales Crusaders. Over half the Welsh world cup squad are Welsh born and bred.

    The Welsh one 25-24.
Back in the day there was no rugby league in the valleys and those who went north to play league were banished.

These northern teams are really going to be tested under some ridiculous conditions , Port Moresby avg Oct temp 30.5deg with over 75-80% humidity, Townsville wont be much better.

9 Welsh-born players and one non-Welsh born but domestic develop player in the squad. Such a shame they had 5 of their better Welsh born players ruled out through injury and unavailability.

    Very weak squad.
