Webby also said he’s giving the boys 3 days off and that they haven’t practiced much over the last couple of weeks.
I saw that and wondered, if they haven't been practicing much for the last couple of weeks, what exactly have they been doing?
I get there's been short turnarounds and travel but seems a weird statement.

Last mention of it before I pick on someone else, but watching the replay again what do I see. 09:55 Tohu left lying on the ground after a weak tackle. Twice in two weeks hes getting physically dominated by the 10min mark. It takes him 5secs just to get to his feet and he walks back to the line with his hands on his hips.

Mad respect for him for turning up week in week out and busting his gut. Few would have the heart to do that, but this is absurd.

I am always optimistic before a game…. I watch all 8 games every weekend. Yesterday was another example that anyone can win on the day. I could smell the Titans were close after playing very well the 2 weeks previously and how we are struggling on the field and middles depth being found out. I think they would have beaten many teams today…. In saying that - we could have snatched it a few times - Egan’s minuscule knock-on for the RTS no try and DWZ possible no touch for Berry’s no try…. We win if we get either of those or one of our many attacking raids where we were going 70-90m up field each time in the last 15 minutes. Addin was great once again. I hope people can remember these big performances from him in the future and not say his head isn’t in it or he wants to leave at the first sign of an average game. He has been our best this year with CNK, Egan and SJ. Remember what our alternatives are… and Webby is adamant that CNK is Number 1.

I usually read every post each week on the ‘post match thread’… I couldn’t read past the second page this week.

Things are not going as we would like or expected but it feels like some of us would kick our kids out of home after a couple of bad school reports and forgot that we loved these same kids / players just a few weeks ago.

I don’t think anyone is past it but some definitely need a rest / freshen up. And in regards to SJ caught on the 4th - that can’t be pinned solely on him and his communication - as we can’t hear their communication through our tv’s or being at the ground. The runners weren’t quite getting it right so SJ didn’t force the pass. These things can be down to the opposition’s defence too. So probably a combination of players or events.

DWZ didn’t trust Berry a couple of times and was caught out letting them back into the game. Montoya has had a run of games now where he has just been ok or below what is needed - so I would like RTS on the wing and due to energy being needed - I would like Ali L to get a run. My other thought is maybe Pompey one side and Ali the other as Berry has been off the last 2 games too and could be tired. But changing 2 centres probably is changing things too much.

Number 6 - I’m afraid that often our 6 looks good when we are dominant over the 80 mins and currently we aren’t. It is getting to the stage where CHT needs to start when fit. He offers more defensively, straightens things up better and has a slightly better kick than TMM too. Metcalf isn’t in the conversation as he is out longer term.

But changing 1 back positionally = RTS wing and bring in 1 or 2 new centres and a new 6 is too much change…. I can’t see Webby doing that. So maybe just 1 new centre on the left and RTS to the wing as we have depth in the centre but not the wing. CHT if fit comes in otherwise stay with TMM due to the only fit 6. I am a big fan of RTS in the centres even if we haven’t seen his full value yet - but he is still learning the role, his 6 hasn’t helped him much and his winger has struggled too. RTS then to the wing as Pompey and Ali are the next cabs to go.

In the forwards - we are undermanned due to injuries. Keep the same until players come back from injury.

I still love my team, I still believe we go deep…. We have time to get it right…. But that window is getting smaller. Some plans / powder that Webby will have for later in the year might have to be employed earlier due to performances and results.

Unfortunately this wasnt an isolated incident .Sad but hey... Age & injuries catches up with all players.

We really lost momentum in this set and it shows our inability to play to the left. SJ, DWZ, Berry just made the break on the right, play goes to AFB he looks left and theres nothing on. He takes the tackle and we meekly kick on the 5th. Titans score on their next set.

This is what I have been saying about TMM not putting himself in a position to feed his outsides.Good player down on confidence to direct plays . Happens a lot & disrupting the left edge attack. In his defence maybe injured & is the only 6 left standing.

If he was standing where SJ is but on the other side and takes that ball from AFB, RTS shreds that defensive line.

Looking at what's ahead I hope the Knights win this weekend so that they aren't quite at desperation stage when we head over there next weekend. It's going to be a tough away game regardless (always is at Newcastle), followed by the Roosters away and Panthers at home so it's crucial all 3 games aren't lost. As things stand right now I'd probably be satisfied with a 5-1-6 record at the halfway stage of the season with a shot at the final 12 games and hopefully some of the injured players back. Top 8 still seems realistic, top 4 is looking remote but who really knows.

Ponga has singlehandedly carried the knights all season. If it wasn't for him when we played them, it could have been a blowout. I struggle to see how they win without him.

Those bagging young Laban really need their heads examined. It was always a tough ask for a 3 game youngster to match up against Fifita. Sure he had a bad defensive read against Boyd which resulted in a conceded try, but the young lad had a dig for the whole game, which is something that I don't think can be said for some of the regular starters. Whilst we are losing games, the fact that we are blooding our young talent now is a real positive for us. They will only get better with experience.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think that Bunty is the one we are missing the most. He may only run about 30m per game, but it's clear he was doing a lot behind the scenes on defense, as evidenced by the fact that his injury stint has coincided with our dip in form. It's obvious that he was instrumental in i) holding up our middle defense and ii) making sure we don't drop off momentum when AFB goes for a spell. Ale is trying his best, but he's just not up to scratch defensively. Zyon Maiu’u would be a great two punch alongside Niukore once he is available. A bench of Marata, Zyon Maiu’u, CHT and Bunty is starting to looking like the way to go for us. That's a really good bench imo.

As for the calls to include Ali over Montoya, I'm not so sure. If anything, I think we need to think seriously about DWZ having a spell in NSW cup. His defensive reads/errors have been quite instrumental in costing us momentum during this tough spell we've had. It's been a constant since his bulldogs days.

TMM had to be in a place to take a pass from AFB there.
