It's the old thing:
If we lose, we're shit until TLT, then it's "A few changes! Well, now we're cooking with gas!"/"The same team! They'll have had a rocket up the jacksie!"
If we win, we're great until TLT, then it's "Why the fuck would you/wouldn't you mess with last week's team?!"

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Labans performance?

5 hit ups for 30m?
Capewell would be proud

It’s a clear strategy by Webby not to use certain players on attack
I think he hurt himself on attack and faded. Then I think Webby got nervous after the penalty. Shame I think he was warming into it. The shot he put on Fotuaika was a beaut.

Another issue that stems I see is we aren’t dominating in the tackle in the middle allow the opposition fast ptb

Yeah this is another one. Has the new rule of banning one leg lifts in tackles affected our ruck control?

We are definitely holding back on our attacking formation which is smart from Webster and the coaching team, no point this early in the season showing all our cards.
Certainly always optimistic!

But definitely not the case.

We haven't evolved from last year with the ball is the real truth, and we play too conservatively. The blueprint has been laid out how to defend us because we don't have any variation.

Nah lack of physical dominance. Webby praising Barnett but he’s only great front on. He has zero mobility and zero speed to chase. Still a legend tho.

So on defense

Egan - not dominant
Mitch - great front on but zero mobility
Ford - not dominant
Laban - (?)
Tohu - not dominant and zero mobility
It shows, We gotta get the balance right. Whether change with the starting middle needs to happen or a plan around rotations idk. It’s hard when you have 4 first graders are sitting on the side lines.

Watching Roosters and Storm after that Warriors game...we are not even in the same conversation. Fast, slick, cohesive. Not a single one of our backline would make theirs (maybe RTVS and SJ).

It's a hard truth but this side is far closer to bottom 4 than top 4.

Bookies agree. Odds went from $15 for premiership to $26 after today.

We don’t seem to be able to play in milestone matches

Barnett 150 last week
CNK 100 this week

I'm looking forward to SJ being given a break so we try something different in attack
Imagine the team will play like deers caught in headlights. He is the most important player in the team and shudder to think what the scoreline will be without him.

Hopefully CHT is available next game so atleast then he can be given time to rest his injury.

Taine has played in halves coming up. Might also be an option. We seem to have lots of options at 6 but nothing at 7.

I love that. Apart from the Cleary era we’ve always been behind the 8 ball. We’ve candied what’s worked instead of creating something new ourselves.

Kearney try’s to replicate the storm AFTER they’ve won multiple premierships with a system that’s being phased. Seasons success and then utter collapse follows.

Webbys comes in with the panthers choke em style - one season success when all the top teams have evolved to adapt to something new.

We are followers not leaders. We will always come second if we’re lucky.

Look at all the try’s the Storm and broncos are scoring. Nothing fixed, nothing structured, all explosive and fast plays that the defence can’t read or prep for.

I would mind some of that in our rigid, one sided system.

Thats my point really. Other teams know it and we won't change it up, be less than one-dimentional until we stop going to the go-to option.
He's playing injured and thats not helping but f*** me, noone is going to stand up if he is the only option.
When its on, its on. We've seen the variations but they're rarely played.
Give the guy a break and see what we can do. We might be surprised.
Its not right if we can't do anything without him

why doesn't the right winger mark his man, instead of running in to where the centre is already tackling his guy, thus leaving the right edge exposed letting in two tries which cost the game ,although there were a few others that also missed tackles.
TVS should be fullback as he's bigger on defence,NK is a little small and gets driven backwards on goal line defence.
Webster needs to make the changes, and look who was and wasn't playing in those positions the last time they won.

Two things are happening there, I think:
1. Berry favours a union back-style low tackle position around the knees which takes about 0.5 of a second longer to get the ball carrier to ground, or at least makes it look like the carrier is getting through when he isn't. DWZ seems to have not yet worked this out, and cramps in because he thinks Berry's missing his man. This enables a late offload from the tackled player into the gap that DWZ vacates. If DWZ just held his line, the tackled player wouldn't be able to make that offload - not outside anyway.
2. DWZ loves an intercept. The problem is that for every one he makes at the moment, three offloads are getting past him.

Just watched the game and I thought everyone is over reacting a little bit.
I thought it wasn’t a bad game overall, I thought it came down to the titans just being more desperate than us.
our forwards dominated, shape was decent, just a few defensive lapses on the edges cost us.
Back to the titans desperation, we had 4 genuine try scoring opportunities in the last 15 to win the game, Barney looked to be over for sure but was stopped by good Defence, Tohu the same, Dallin held up over the line, and another one that pissed me off Roger got a bat down off a titans player and throws a lazy ass pass to Montoya, that if it didn’t hit the ground we score.

Few points,
Ford looked good on the right, Laban went well should’ve got more minutes, not putting Walker at second row.
Zyon Maiu’u looked good.
Berrys been quite poor lately.
Te maire Offers, nothing and CHT should be 6 without Metcalf available.

I still think we can Make top 4, it starts next week against the knights, if we win that I don’t think we make the 8

I agree, after watching the highlights I realise how close the game really was (and reflected in the three point margin). The Warrior's were just one disallowed try away from victory (the so-called "knock on" from Egan).

loads of overreacting. we have a problem defending from penalties at the moment but we've also absolutely punished teams for the same. we've also had some lopsided counts, what can you do?
honestly it's just a bit of variance and possibly now after last year teams are more prepared for us. but realistically
1. vs sharks, we didn't get up for a game they really wanted. Our victory over them last year was the NZ sporting moment of the year. we got ambushed
2.. vs storm. miracle play stuff. better team lost
3. beat raiders
4. beat the knights in a close game statistically
5. punished the rabbitohs
6. drew against in form eagles. also manly got a few tinny tries (tommy turbo offloading to no one - deflecting off egan, DCE goes in... etc) and I think we saw the bunker interfere in real time for non foul play for the first and so far only time.
7. Dragons scored at least half their tries directly after piggy backs, play at 90%+ completion, go back to sucking the next week.
8. 3 of the titans tries come from soft defence and also, HIA call when we earned a broken line, trips and foul play unpenalised. also lol has the bunker ever denied a try for the play of the ball before?

We actually seem to score pretty easy when we get in position. It's just some defence and, imo, a bunch of bad luck at the moment. NRL is super competitive so it's gonna happen. it's frustrating but we don't suck. We're just a good side and now teams are expecting it. The hail mary offload stuff is tearing us up but it's low percentage play that we're just seeing come off. You can walk out the casino a winner every now and then but you keep coming back and the house always wins. In webby we trust
